Upon its release in 2001, the Bridget Jones’s Diary movie, based on Helen Fielding’s best-selling novel of the same name, was a smash hit, even earning Renee Zellweger an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the titular character. Its sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, was also well received by audiences even if, in true sequel fashion, it didn’t quite match up to its predecessor. Talk of a third movie was rife for some time, but it has certainly taken its time to come about.
