At the time of its release, Blade Runner may not have received the critical acclaim of Ridley Scott’s other successful sci-fi film, Alien, but it is, without a doubt, a cult classic and is now recognized as one of the best science fiction films ever made. The film is based on the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? that was published in 1968. Option rights for a film changed hands a few times before everything finally fell into place with Ridley Scott at the helm. The author died just before the finished film was released, but did note that “they caught [my own interior world] perfectly,” after seeing early Blade Runner footage.
