One would be forgiven that thinking that The Girl With All the Gifts is an uplifting story about a girl who has a very good Christmas. The 2014 novel by author M. R. Carey is a bit more dystopian than its title lets on, however. Essentially another in a long line of post-apocalyptic zombie stories, the novel takes place in a world ravaged by a fungal infection that turns people into crazed, cannibalistic “hungries.”
The book did well enough to gain the notice of Warner Bros. UK, which is releasing a movie adaptation later this year. The movie stars Sennia Nanua as Melanie, the titular girl with the gifts, and counts Glenn Close and The World’s End‘s Paddy Considine among its cast, too. The above trailer for the movie dropped last month, and now it has an official movie poster to go with it.
