Later this year, the Star Trek franchise will celebrate its 50th anniversary, following the release of six TV series, six Original Series films, four Next Generation films and three new reboot films. A seventh TV series led by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) is even in the works for 2017. And that’s not to mention a wide range of spin-offs including games, figurines, novels, toys, and comics.
So it’s safe to say that Kirk, Spock, Picard and the like are deeply ingrained in pop culture, but in many ways so are their lesser known crews. For example, the third and newest reboot film, Star Trek Beyond, which hits theaters in just a few weeks, will bring back other fan favorites such as Uhura, McCoy (Bones), Scotty, Sulu and Chekov.
